Less than a month ago, I had the chance to film Bonnie Perry in Maine and Wisconsin and Andrea Knepper with the Gitchee Gummee participants. While filming and collecting still photos is a part of filmmaking, it is also important to observe, record, and take in all the surroundings and not just the moving image. Finding common ground, respecting boundaries, and discovering the process are all a part of the documentary. As an artist, my sense of story and narrative are linear bits on an elliptical path.
